This NHS service uses blood tests to assess the general health of our patients, confirm the presence of a bacterial or viral infection, see how well organs are functioning and to screen for genetic conditions. This service is available to any NHS patient sent by their GP for a blood test. Often patients find accessing our service easier and quicker than travelling to University Hospital Coventry & Warwickshire. The blood is taken by hospital trained staff within the pharmacy and sent immediately to the hospital for analysis.
When attending the pharmacy for a blood test please:
· Ensure that you bring your blood test request form with you (the form from your doctor)
· Wear clothing that gives easy access to your arm (eg short sleeves or with sleeves that can be rolled up)
The majority of blood tests do not require you to take any special actions before attending for the test. If your doctor has requested a specific test that requires you to do certain things before coming for your appointment (eg not to eat anything for a certain number of hours), the doctor will inform you when he/she gives you the blood test request form and he/she will explain what you need to do before attending for your blood test.
